She might want to take another look at that ‘supporter’ list…

Still reportedly smarting from her brush with real employment during the 2006 campaign, our favoritest Humboldt County Supervisor Bonnie Neely is leaving nothing to chance next time around.

Two separate e-mailers told the Humboldt Mirror that they received phone calls from Ms. Neely requesting campaign contributions for her anticipated return to the public trough–in 2010.

The first said that when he answered the phone, he assumed Neely was calling on behalf of Clendenen, Atkins or Clark, three candidates whose names will appear on actual ballots and everything in the current election cycle.

“But she just wanted  money for herself,” he said, and added that he had no idea how his name ended up on her list of supporters.

“I wouldn’t vote for her if she were the only candidate running,” he said. “Learning that she’s this focused already on an election more than two years from now only confirms that.”

The second e-mailer said Neely didn’t even attempt a campaign pitch.

“There was no discussion of any accomplishments or goals. She simply said she was planning ahead for 2010 and my early support would make a tremendous difference.”

Of course, how much time could the Bon Bon be expected to waste on accomplishments and goals when she’s busy campaigning for an election more than two years away?

  1. The only thing surprising about this to me is that the Queen B is making her own phone calls. Couldn’t she have delegated one of the little people to do that for her? Weird.

  2. Bonnie is fine for Eureka, but let’s keep her honest. Estelle Fennell for 2nd District Supervisor!

  3. How are you supposed to know who you’re backing in an election until you know who he or she is running against?

  4. Keep her honest? Uh, no. That implies she’s honest to begin with.

  5. The BobBon is about to have a board that will support her every vote. MarkyMark is in and JimBo and if she gets Cliffy that’s a lot of support. Don’t know how Estelle would be looked at but she didn’t get tribal money so it’s pretty clear who is preferred.

  6. Estelle has been offered tribal money, but has refused.

She helped stop redevelopment in Redway.

  7. I think Estelle would show some independence, but she didn’t do too well in the primary against Bon Bon’s hand-picked apple-boy.

  8. With Humboldt County incomes languishing at less than half the national average, stopping development isn’t necessarily something to brag about.

  9. How wonderful that the citizens of Redway have been spared employment opportunity. Gosh, I wonder what they’ll do instead to make ends meet????

  10. “With Humboldt County incomes languishing at less than half the national average, stopping development isn’t necessarily something to brag about.”

Development is not the same as COUNTY REDEVELOPEMENT.

Redevelopment of Redway would have meant an even more negative cash/services flow to our communitiy. And the county would have taken even more of our firefighters $$ away. That is something Estelle Fennell would not and could not support.
That’s only ONE reason the Fire Chiefs have endorsed Estelle Fennell over the other.

  11. 12:27 is correct. The money would havbe been taken away from the SoHum community and fund other county “pet projects”.

I wouldn’t worry about the June Primary results. Estelle’s name is on the ballot and that is what counted as far as that election goes. It will be a harder road for Johanna as a write-in candidate, as her name will not appear on the ballot. As people get to know Estelle, they come on board her campaign.

  12. What does Estelle have to do with this post? Is her election staff so desperate they’ve resorted to random blogging?

  13. Republican Bonnie backing Clif Clendenen, the Green, over Estelle Fennell, the Democrat, for county supervisor: that is the connection.

“…when he answered the phone, he assumed Neely was calling on behalf of Clendenen”

  14. This is old news.

If you check the HumCo elections office (Harris & H Street) you’ll see that Bill Pierson (via Sedgefield Properties) gave Bonnie $5,000 in 2007.

If Bonnie was retiring in 2010 why would she be raising $?

And for the record, the HCDCC has endorsed a Republican (Bonnie Neely) over a Democrat (Richard Marks) as recently as 2006.

Is “Sedgefield Properties” a Bill Pierson controlled DBA covered by Measure T?

  15. Actually, Mr. Obvious, the HCDCC did not endorse any of the supervisor candidates in the that election. Only democratic members as individuals endorsed Bonnie. Others endorsed Richard, but as individuals.

  16. “Money, money, money,
    Must be funny
    In a rich man’s world”

  17. where does her boy toy Kerrigan go i thought he was the annointed successor

  18. Sedgefield Properties is an LLC registered with the State. It will be interesting to see if any one member of the LLC is from out of the county OR if Sedgefield Properties has ANY one employee from out of the county. The reason for this interest is as follow:

    Section 11. Definitions.
Unless otherwise expressly stated, the following words and phrases in this Ordinance
    shall have the following meaning:
CORPORATION: An organization incorporated under the laws of the State of California
or holding a Certificate of Authority to do Business within the State of California; or an
organization incorporated under the laws of any state in the United States; also includes
limited liability partnerships and limited liability companies; also includes organizations
operating as nonprofits as defined by the Internal Revenue Service Code and
Regulations, with the exception of political parties.

  19. Yo – Bonnie has not been a registered Republican for YEARS – wake the f up you bunch of lazy good for nothing slobs and do some research!

  20. Horseshit Getwithitwouldya. The bon bon was a registered republican in June of 2006. If you want to decieve, go over to heraldo or prepared to be pissed on by the bug-lovers.

  21. 8:54pm I was endorsed by the HCDCC when I ran for Ms. Neely’s position in 1998, and was in fact solicited to run against her. I left the area (Worked on the road and commuted) to work as a union organizer for a five year term in 1999, but kept my residence here. I took out the paper work to run against Bonnie in 2002, and she called me to meet with her. We talked about issues in the county and she made some promises I felt she dropped the ball on. When I came back to work at the mill, I witnessed a railroading of the County Redevelopment plan and announced my intention to run for Neely’s seat in early 2006.

Unfortunately, the HCDCC chair had already committed his support to Neely, and so had many others on the “new” HCDCC. I did not garner that endorsement. Then someone formed a “Democrats for Neely” PAC to make sure to confuse local Democrats that a Democrat was in the race. Dirty politics. But effective. Bonnie done then, what she is doing now, constant campaigning. And she is very good at it. She only won by a few hundred votes last time.

My committee spent around $14,000 last race. (I didn’t accept any corporate funding.) Bonnie beat that in one swoop with $25,000 from the Blue Lake Rancheria. (The Tribe only has 51 members) Pierson gives thousands to her. Between Bonnie and Nancy Flemming, they raised and spent nearly 1/4 of a million dollars! That is why we need campaign reform or contribution limits.

But I digress. I know many people in the 4th district and have confidence that I can compete in this race, and Bonnie knows that also. That is why the early start. Nancy has already told me she has no intentions on running. I will be forming a committee in late 2009 and move forward to run in 2010. I would do it sooner, but I work for a living! I will raise more money this time, and I will represent this district without all the special interests.

  22. Oh my God. Neely or Marks? That’s the only choice in Eureka? You have got to be kidding and we have got to get some better candidates!

  23. 12:27pm-Now is the time to look.

“Anonymous Wiener for 4th District Supervisor!”

  24. Who cares how Neely is registered? Whores have no party.

  25. As a whore I take great pride in giving you your monies worth plus I love to party. Bon Bon isn’t respectable enough to be called a whore. You’d be one sick puppy if you would party with her or her penis nose.

  26. Richard, are you going to be running as a “Democrat” or as a “Progressive?” Or are they supposedly one and the same these days?

  27. I think it’s hilarious that Estelle’s “people” are claiming that she stopped redevelopment in So Hum as a news reporter on the left wing Garberville radio station KMUD. Supervisor Rodoni is the one who put a halt to it by removing it as an option at the county level.

  28. ” think it’s hilarious that Estelle’s “people” are claiming that she stopped redevelopment in So Hum as a news reporter on the left wing Garberville radio station KMUD. Supervisor Rodoni is the one who put a halt to it by removing it as an option at the county level.”

Check the records and you will see that it was Roger Rodoni who spearheaded Redway Redevelopment,

He got soooo much flak for that by redway residents and firefighters.

    Redway residents resoundingly said NO.
Rodoni then started putting out the false comment that he also said NO to redway RE development. Politicaca

    UNBELIEVALBLE
Luckily people of sohum remeber that Rodoni policies have always hurt us.

  29. Rose: Working Class Democrat!

  30. 10:13; So, you would have the world believe the Bon-Bon’s latest ploy of yes, I am a republican? So let me get this straight…when she and her sister walked into the apartment complex and was questioned by republicans that live here and she replied “I have not been a republican for a while – I am an Independent” we are not supposed to believe her in person – rather believe YOU???? And we are supposed to believe YOU over the numerous republicans who financially supported the Bon-Bon over the years as a repbulican when they are ALL talking about getting calls from the Bon-Bon not ASKING for their support – but DEMANDING it: “You WILL support me”. Don’t think so..

  31. ” think it’s hilarious that Estelle’s “people” are claiming that she stopped redevelopment in So Hum as a news reporter on the left wing Garberville radio station KMUD. Supervisor Rodoni is the one who put a halt to it by removing it as an option at the county level.”

Yes, and Estelle reported on all of it.

  32. Hey Getwithitwouldya – 10:13 here. I am not saying she truly is a republican, just that she is registered as such. Frankly, all she is is an embarassment, a liar and a really rude person who would throw her own family in the trash and has sold her soul to continue to munch at the public trough.

  33. Richard Marks makes way too much money to be using the “working class” label. And Chris Kerrigan can’t succeed Neely, because Kerrigan’s absence from the Eureka City Council to campaign for John Edwards in Iowa ended Kerrigan’s political future.

  34. To Rose:

Why would anyone running for a non-partisan office run as a partisan?

I think that’s a big problem for the folks. Just what we need is more elected officials with an agenda.

Sorry, Richard, but working class or not, I won’t cast my vote for someone who puts party above people.

    :)

  35. Hey! I am a party people you know. I am not completely partisan, I have supported both green and republican candidates when I thought it was in the best interest locally. And will continue. But my role on the HCDCC is to, identify and support qualified Democratic candidates.

  36. Frankly, Richard, Local Solutions has taken up the job the HCDCC is supposed to do.

That is – the HCDCC should be supporting DEMOCRATS who run for office, without partiality. They should provide support systems, voter lists, phone banking, bulk mail numbers, buttons, etc. Everything Local Solutions does for “Progressives” – the HCDCC should be doing – and more, for DEMOCRATS who run. Same with the Republican Central Committee.

You know their failings. As do I. You have experienced it firsthand. I have seen what they do to democrats who are not in the clique.. The HCDCC plays favorites and actively works against Democrats, running for office, and fully deserving of help from their own party, but who aren’t in the inner circle.

  37. It’s true. The HCDCC actively opposes Democrats who run for office, unless of course they bow down and kiss the ring of the HCDCC. It’s pathetic and embarrassing and stupid. As old as most members of the HCDCC are, you would think they would tend to act with more maturity than they actually do.

What say you?
